Silverwood Colliery Heritage Group

I have recently been supporting Silverwood Colliery Heritage Group with setting up a formalised group, I have given them advice, support and guidance on how to become a constituted group and setting up a bank account as well as securing public liability insurance for any activities or events that they may deliver.
The group have recently secured £250 from Wickersley ward funding which they hope to use to purchase resources such as display boards and pull up banners. The group are also looking to raise funds by selling t-shirts, keyrings, photo frames and Silverwood Colliery commemorative cups with pit workers numbers on them for ex-miners, family members and anyone else interested in supporting the group.

Rotherham Federation in partnership with the Rotherham Borough Council completed a door knock exercise in early February 2020. The purpose of the door knock was to gain feedback on Ward Housing Hubs and explain their introduction to local tenants. As well as knocking on the doors of tenants, we had 2 community centres as bases at Peregrin Way in Harthill and Viking Way. The bases were for workers involved in the door knock but they also gave an opportunity for local tenants to come into the centre and talk to the council directly.

Jean and Gwen have regularly attended the 5th Age Community Group every Tuesday, 2pm – 4pm. They were both the first members of the group to ask about the digital drop-ins and what they involve. The group has varied in it’s attendance of the drop-in from 2-5 attendees.

The event offered a perfect opportunity for people to have fun in their local community centre and celebrate Christmas together.
