Kimberworth Park TARA is an active tenant and resident association who have been running for over 20 years and have been members of Rotherham Federation for the last 10 years.
The TARA run a café from their tenant’s hall three mornings a week, they cook and serve breakfast from 7:30am until 11:00am at very reasonable prices. As well as serving breakfasts, the TARA sells nearly new clothes, bric a brac, CD’s and videos from their tenants hall to help raise funds. The TARA also organises day trips for local people including families. They raise money for local and national charities, organise a Summer gala and a free Christmas party for the local residents who support them throughout the year.
The TARA combat loneliness on the estate, increasing community cohesion and bringing many people from the area together. Many people use the tenant’s hall – from young parents to older people in their eighties. Through the work of the TARA,people come together, and strangers become friends in one of the poorestcommunities in Rotherham.
David Senior has been involved with the TARA since the early 2000’s, he became member of the committee, then Vice Chair and is now Chair. David has been the TARA representative for Rotherham Federation for 8 years now, attending meetings and networking with other TARA’s and community groups around the borough. David also helps to cook and serve the breakfasts three times a week and does all the publicity for the group.
This year we have nominated David and the Kimberworth Park TARA for a TPAS Community Action Award and they have been shortlisted. The award ceremony will take place on Friday 27th March 2020 in Manchester and both David and Veronica, the Treasurer of the TARA, will attend. I will also be attending the awards with them.
